What’s involved?

The maternity nurse first aid course addresses the most common emergencies within the home or childcare setting. Young children are particularly prone to accidents, which unless acted on quickly can lead to life threatening conditions.

First Aid bridges the gap between the diagnosis of a problem and the arrival of the emergency services. The course will show candidates how to check vital signs, get the right information to the emergency services and implement a treatment protocol before the arrival of paramedics.

Maternity First Aid builds on common techniques across all age groups by adding separate modules on what to do if a pregnant woman experiences difficulties or health related issues with her pregnancy.

What will I learn?

Expect a fast paced, informative and practically orientated course. Candidates have plenty of time to practice each skill and ask their instructor about anything they are unsure of. Topic covered include:

What you get out of it?

Candidates receive the Paediatric First Aid (6 Hour) Certificate which is valid for three years. The course also includes a useful A5 sized textbook which is easy to follow and handy when recapping the topics post course.

The main objective is that people leave the course with the confidence to help in the time of an emergency. The worst feeling is not knowing what to do in the event of an accident or illness, which can leave you feeling helpless. First Aid training can prevent this and often leads to lives being saved.
